The Hostas and the Oil: A Garden Revelation

“Don’t be afraid... make me a small cake first.” — Elijah to the Widow (1 Kings 17:13)

This week, I sold hostas from my garden. Again.

And I couldn’t help but reflect on the story of the widow woman and the prophet Elijah.

She had only a little oil and a handful of flour—just enough to make one last meal before she and her son perished. But God had a different plan. Through her obedience and willingness to offer what she had, she stepped into a miracle. The oil never ran dry. The flour never ran out.

That’s the same spiritual rhythm I’ve seen in my garden. These hostas—low-maintenance, faithful little greens—have become symbols of supernatural provision. I didn’t plant them thinking they’d ever yield profit. I planted them because I loved beauty and growth. But God, as always, had a multiplication plan.

I didn’t need a full greenhouse or a cash crop. I needed obedience. I needed to move. I needed to sell the hosta.

And as I’ve sold them, God’s whispered, “The oil won’t run out if you keep pouring.”

That’s the lesson: Your miracle isn’t in what you’re waiting for—it’s in what you already have. The seed is in the soil. The blessing is in your backyard. The favor is already in bloom.

So I ask you:

🌿 What’s your “hosta”?

💧 What’s your “oil”?

🔥 And what are you still holding on to that God’s been waiting for you to pour.
